Coyotes are members of the dog family once living on the prairies and deserts but now live in the Mountains and forest. Coyotes are definitely a part of the Tennessee landscape.

Coyotes are pack animals like our dogs and form strong family groups; both the male and the female feed and protect their young pups in their den.

Coyotes are smaller than wolves and are sometimes called prairie wolves or brush wolves. They communicate with a distinctive call, which all Coyotes use.

Coyotes are natural adaptors because of the wide variety of diet that the Coyote eats.

The coyote maintains its territory like our dogs by marking it with urine.

Only 5-20% of coyote pups survive their first year.

Coyotes can run at almost forty miles per hour and jump over eight feet!

It has been said that the Coyote will scan the skies for ravens flying in circles, knowing that birds often hover over a dead animal, find the bird and find the food.
