How on earth do you say Xoloitzcuintle?
Spanish pronunciation: [ʃoloit͡sˈkwint͡ɬe]
English: /ʃoʊlɔɪtsˈkwiːntli/ shoh-loyts-kweent-lee
Just use the commonly shorten name Xolos.
This breed is one of the world’s oldest and rarest breeds and could have been the first dog of the Americas.
Elegance and Strength
Mexican Hairless dog is considered a national treasure in Mexico but even the experts have trouble pronouncing his name. Their name is derived from the Aztec Indian god Xolotl and Itzcuintli.
Ancient sensible people used the dog as a heating pad given their hairless bodies put off more heat than dogs with fur.
Today, the Mexican Hairless is a great companion and was accepted into the American Kennel Association in 2011 in the non sporting group.
Xolo Hairless Dog Characteristics
The Xolos most distinguishing characteristic is its large upright bat-like ears.
This little dog can be born in a variety of colors, such as black, grey, red, liver, bronze to golden yellow. The most sought after are the darker shade solid colors. Two Xolo varieties hairless and coated.
The Xolos are born in three different sizes standard, toy, and miniature. A miniature version is called the Tepeitzcuintli.
Coated and hairless can appear within the same litter but more than 75 % are born without hair. This is a hardy breed with a long life expectancy and popular because of its intelligence, affectionate, and protectiveness of their sensible family.
Hairless dogs tend to be quite clean and free of odor since they don't have hair which can entrap dirt and debris. Moisturizer is needed to keep their skin nice and soft and sun block in the summer to protect the hairless body.
Hairless Xoloitzcuintlis are non-shedding or hypoallergenic dogs and can be good for people who are allergic to dogs.
