Everyone Loves The Puppy In The Window

Puppies Are Sweet

lab puppyPuppies have this universal sweetness that no one can deny. They bring us joy and laughter as soon as they come into our homes.

I have had the extreme pleasure of growing up with many dogs and pets. My family has raised Collie’s, Rottweiler's, Bassett's, and now currently I have given home to 7 dogs of mixed breed.

Living in a rural area in Tennessee where there is no Human Society, I have found myself in the position of taking in everyone's stray or unwanted puppy. It is a challenge at times but they are members of my family and I love each for their individual style.

I know from my vast experience that you can take any breed aggressive or gentle and create a very loving companion. It is only sensible to say if you show your puppy loving kindness then your puppy will grow into a dog that will display the same loving kindness back to your family.

Not to say that your puppy will never be in a “bad mood” or not want to share his bowl with his brothers and sisters, but the foundational character will be imprinted and the overall personality will be one of a loving and trusting puppy.

They depend on their families to provide all their puppy needs; they can’t do this for themselves. They need their families and isn’t that part of the attraction, being needed in such a way. I believe so and you will learn to as you experience the joy of owning your first puppy.

All puppies no matter what breed need the sensible basics to develop. The first and most important step toward successfully ownership of a puppy is defining sincerely your degree of commitment. Unless your commitment is uncompromising, you may have a mess on your hands. Dogs are NOT disposable possession that can be discarded when the going gets rough. They are long commitment living 12 to 17 years.

New puppies are weaned from their Mother’s milk around 6 weeks of age and this is usually when you can adopt. The puppy stage is fun but challenging. The puppy will need plenty of time to sleep in between its burst of activity and playfulness.

Like our human babies, puppies require a great deal of sleeping time to grow strong and healthy. And like our babies they will be up in the middle of the night for their feeding and potty time. So be prepared until you can get your little puppy on a schedule that works for you and your family. Sounds sensible, it is!

To avoid frustration you need to realize that when the puppy wakes and between feeding and playtime your puppy is going to need to potty. However if your puppy is living indoors, this need not be a difficult process with repetition and consistency you will train your puppy to go to the door or let you know in some manner, they need out. It is also important to verbally praise your puppy when it goes outside.

Love, repetition and consistency; this is the recipe for successful puppy ownership. Puppies cherish nothing more than the love and attention of their sensible families.
